The aim of the Freedom of Association Working Group is to protect and promote the right of freedom of assembly in the Euro-Mediterranean region, focusing particularly on countries where movement, assembly, and association are particularly restricted.
The FOAA Working Group meets twice a year to exchange ideas and agree to an agenda to provide support to members at all levels: International, national, and regional. It focuses on monitoring how the right to freedom of association is protected in law and practice. The working group recently produced the 2013 Regional Study and the 2014 Regional Study on Freedom of Assembly in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.
In addition to the study, the working group issues reports outlining the type of advocacy needed, and provide solidarity for organizations and individuals who face opposition that threaten their associative commitments; as well as statements on current events around the region, such as in Turkey, Egypt, and Algeria.
