UN Summit for Refugees & Migrants: a missed opportunity
The International community cannot merely “consider facilitating” mobility: weak commitments on international protection (resettlement target withdrawn from Declaration!) and safe and legal pathways contrasts sharply with clear maintenance of border control and (forced) return cooperation. Consultation with civil society is not “desirable” but a pre-requisite for genuine international and human rights based efforts.
EuroMed Rights will closely monitor developments in view of the 2018 Global Compacts to effectively promote and safeguard migrants’ and refugees’ rights.
