According to the United Nations, women are 27 times more likely than men to be harassed online. The last UN Women’s Commission on the Status of Women’ (CSW67) parallel NGO Forum, on March 16, was the opportunity to raise the topic on the table.
The discussion, on the form of a webinar, gathered both researchers and feminist activists from the Euro-Mediterranean region, with the aim to highlight and analyse trends in online gender-based violence and their consequences on women’s daily life.
Around the table: Dr. Eleonora Esposito (expert on cyber violence and researcher at EIGE); Laura Clough (thematic support officer at EuroMed Rights); Karima Nadir (Moroccan human rights defender); Laia Serra Perelló (Spanish criminal lawyer and expert in gender equality); Sama Aweidah (Palestinian human rights defender, head of the Women’s Studies Centre); and Emma Portelli Bonnici (Maltese, member of Lawyers for Choice).
The discussion is summarised in the visuals below, also available at this link.
