Human mobility in the context of disasters, climate change and environmental degradation in the MENA region

EuroMed Rights launches a new report on human mobility in the context of disasters, climate change and environmental degradation in the MENA region.

The MENA region is increasingly affected by floods and droughts, while being the most water-scarce region in the world. Disasters, climate change and environmental degradation have concrete impacts on migration and human rights. The EU answer to this situation is still inadequate and scattered: the European Green Deal and the New Pact on Migration and Asylum separately tackle climate change and migration, despite their inextricability. This undermines the possibility of creating policy synergies and limits the efficacy of EU climate external actions, with repercussions for the whole Euro-Mediterranean region.

EuroMed Rights’ new report, through interviews and fact-checking, urges decision-makers to take concrete steps towards the recognition and protection of human mobility in the context of disasters, climate change and environmental degradation.
