  • On May 12, Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his intention to significantly restrict immigration. Echoing a well-known Brexit slogan, “take back control of our borders,” he stated that the government would restrict access to various residence permits, including work, study, and family reunification visas. Additionally, the minimum period of residence required to obtain permanent status will be extended to 10 years. 
  • On May 6, the British Labour government announced its intention to restrict visa applications for certain nationalities deemed likely to exceed the authorised length of stay. Among the groups targeted by this measure are Pakistani, Nigerian and Sri Lankan nationals.
