Work permit:  Position open to applicants with a valid work permit in Beirut, Lebanon.  

EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit an enthusiastic acting Thematic Programme Coordinator with specific expertise on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) to be part of its dynamic thematic team. This person will report to the Head of Thematic Programmes, and be part of the Programme Department.  

Essential position functions: 

  • Contributing to the Thematic Programme Team: Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of thematic strategies, supporting colleagues when needed – with a special focus on the economic, social and cultural rights programme.
  • Monitoring, research and information sharing: Monitors and documents the situation of ESCR in the Euro-Mediterranean region, including EU policies, in cooperation with the other units/departments (Middle East, North Africa, Dialogue, Communication and Advocacy); initiates, drafts and coordinates reports on relevant topics pertaining to ESCR, and shares relevant information with EuroMed Rights members and relevant organisations. 
  • Facilitating cooperation and synergies: Maintains regular contact with EuroMed Rights members and ESCR organisations in the region, especially by facilitating the thematic working group on ESCR, ensuring coordination and synergies with EuroMed national working groups and other programmes on cross-cutting issues; 
  • Advocacy and communication: Engages in advocacy and communication actions on economic, social and cultural rights, e.g. external representation, events, awareness-raising campaigns, articles on key issues pertaining to ESCR in the region – in coordination with and supported by the Advocacy and Communication department. 

Specifically, the tasks will include the co-drafting and reviewing of a report in collaboration with a member organization, organising a thematic work track which will include peer learning and capacity building with member organisations; and the organising of online working group meetings. 

In addition, this position may be requested to work on other thematic programmes, depending on the needs of the Thematic Programmes Unit. 

Profile, Skills and Background 

  • A University degree in political/social science, law, economy or a related field. Other similar qualifications may also be considered; 
  • Minimum five years of proven experience in the promotion and protection of economic, social and cultural rights and/or in civil society activism in the Euro-Mediterranean region;  
  • Sound knowledge of the NGO sector, preferably at international level, and understanding of political and human rights issues in the Mediterranean region; 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Ability to be clear and concise in written and oral communications;  
  • Team player, open-minded, self-motivated, and well-organised; ability to prioritise and work independently and efficiently under pressure; 
  • Languages: fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written) is imperative. Knowledge of French will be considered an asset; 
  • Computer literacy, including online solutions for creative meetings and trainings.
