EuroMed Rights’ Contribution to the UN Human Rights Committee Consultation on Draft General Comment No. 38 on Freedom of Association

EuroMed Rights has contributed to the UN Human Rights Committee’s consultation on Draft General Comment No. 38 on Article 22 of the ICCPR, which concerns the right to freedom of association.

The contribution uses Türkiye as a case study to highlight broader global trends affecting freedom of association. It examines the increasing harassment of human rights defenders and civil society organizations, the misuse of national security and public morality justifications to restrict civic freedoms, involuntary dissolution of associations, smear campaigns, barriers to funding and international engagement, and the growing role of digital platforms in restricting civic space.
