2025 was a challenging yet inspiring year for EuroMed Rights.
The growing influence of the European far right and the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement in the United States of America, exerted immense pressure on human l human rights movement both in Europe and globally. Past political openings were closed. Funding for human rights work disappeared. And state-orchestrated harassment and repression of defenders mounted.
In the Middle East, warfare, genocide and ethnic cleansing continued to claim thousands of lives. Meanwhile, authoritarian regimes in North Africa maintained tight control the political, social and cultural scenes.
Despite these immense challenges, as this annual report demonstrates, EuroMed Rights remained steadfast in mobilising human rights defenders in the Middle East, North African and Europe . Guided by an adjusted strategy that prioritises protection over promotion of human rights, the network’s Executive Committee and secretariat worked handin-hand with our hundreds of member and partner organisations and human rights defenders to coordinate joint actions human in defence for human rights.
