  • On 08 May, 2024, the Lebanese General Security announced a new set of rules and measures, increasing discriminatory measures, further restricting access to basic rights and services and pressuring returns to Syria.
  • On 02 May, 2024, coinciding with the EU’s announcement of a €1 billion package allocated to Beirut, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced to the Lebanese Ministry of Health a halving of funding for refugee health care coverage in Lebanon. The UN agency justifies its action by budget cuts on a global scale.
  • On 01 May, 2024, under the pretext of “resumption of  voluntary and safe returns“, the General Security forces increased the deportation operations  of refugees in Syria. Moreover, the Lebanese authorities have tightened the procedure for accessing or renewing residence permits.
