On March 11, 2024, almost 500 migrants arrived in Cyprus. This group, which travelled on several ships, is believed to have departed from Lebanon. All these asylum-seekers were accommodated in a temporary accommodation centre with a maximum capacity of 350 people.
On February 24, 2024, two boats from Tripoli in Lebanon disembarked in southeastern Cyprus. 146 refugees from Syria survived the crossing. The two drivers, aged 19 and 21, of Lebanese origin, were arrested, charged and tried for “human trafficking”.
On February 21, 2024, 34 migrants were reported missing, according to information from Alarm Phone. The alert came from the Cypriot coast, which is regularly the scene of illegal pushbacks.
