On March 02, 2024, as the “forced voluntary” departures of refugees from Lebanon to Syria multiply, Syrian prisoners threatened to commit suicide. Near Beirut, in the Roumieh penitentiary centre, a group of detained Syrian refugees expressed their opposition to the order to deport them. If the decision was carried out, they intended to hang themselves, according to information relayed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
On February 23, 2024, Beirut municipal police killed one Syrian refugee and wounded another. The Access Center for Human Rights demands that this state crime not go unpunished and that an investigation be carried out so that the Lebanese authorities protect the inalienable rights of refugees.
