The numbers shroud the individual trajectories of young people like Gedion, who after the death of his father, the suicide of his brother, and his departure from Ethiopia, his mother received a distress call from Libya. In February, he was kidnapped by traffickers who demanded a ransom of $15,000.
On 22 March 2024, IOM revealed the existence of a mass grave in southwestern Libya where more than 65 bodies of presumed migrants were found.
