  • On the 7th of February 2026, in Oudja, around 100 families of missing and detained migrants gathered in the town hall square before boarding buses to the Algerian border. Carrying photos and documents of their loved ones, they travelled along the migration routes to Saïdia beach. Despite closed borders, families held a peaceful commemoration, laying flowers and sharing stories, while Moroccan Association for the Support of Vulnerable Migrants (AMSV) organized the event and called for truth, justice, and humanitarian measures.
  • On the 18th of January 2026, Moroccan authorities intercepted a large group of sub-Saharan migrants attempting to reach Fnideq and cross into the Spanish enclave of Cueta. Since early 2024, Moroccan forces have reportedly disrupted 49,000 migrant smuggling operations and dismantled over 210 organized criminal networks. The Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) reported that 21 migrant bodies were discovered in Ras Asfour, near Oujda, in Morocco’s border region with Algeria, during the final weeks of 2025. The remains, found between the 27th of November and the 31st of December 2025, were identified as belonging to migrants from Guinea, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
