  • On the 13th of February, three migrants were confirmed to have died after an inflatable boat capsized off the Turkish coast near the town of Foca, close to the Greek island of Lesbos. The vessel is believed to have departed from the Turkish shoreline on the 12th of February, despite adverse weather conditions. Following an emergency call, Turkish Coast Guard units were deployed to the scene, rescuing 38 individuals and recovering three bodies. 
  • In a separate development, the bodies of two men, believed to be migrants, were discovered along the Turkish Greek land border.  
  • Turkish prosecutors have arrested five suspected smugglers in connection with a separate fatal incident off the Greek island of Chios. The suspects face charges of migrant smuggling and “killing with probable intent.” Turkish authorities have stated that efforts to combat smuggling networks have been intensified and have reiterated their intention to strengthen cooperation with Greece to prevent further deadly crossing.
