EuroMed Rights is pleased to invite you to its webinar: The mounting socio-economic impacts of climate change in the MENA region
ZOOM Webinar, 22 November 2023
Climate change is an extremely urgent issue for the Middle East and North African region. Due to its geography and climate, the region is particularly vulnerable, and at the same time it does not have the resources, political governance and social protection structures to adapt and mitigate an impact which is already being felt.
While the United Nations, in recent years, have acknowledged it is an independent right “to live in a clean, healthy and sustainable environment”, the implications of climate change and environmental degradation also violate a range of other human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights.
In this webinar, we will highlight some of the key human rights at risk due to climate change, its impacts in the region and ways forward.
Webinar’s programme:
- Tony Daly, EuroMed Rights Board Member
- Sherif Gamal, Executive Director at the Center For Egyptian Women’s Legal Assistance (CEWLA)
- Osman Isci, Executive Committee Member at the Human Rights Association Turkey (IHD)
- Alejandra Lozano, Programme Officer Climate & Environmental Justice at GI-ESCR
Followed by a Q&A and discussion. Languages: interpretation provided in English and Arabic.
