Urgent Call to Reinstate Ceasefire in Gaza and Ensure Unrestricted Humanitarian Aid

Horrific images have been emerging from Gaza since dawn on March 18, revealing the scale of mass atrocities unfolding in real time. Reports confirmed that over 500 people, including more than 180 children, had been killed amid intensified Israeli raids targeting densely populated areas, in a unilateral violation of the ceasefire. The situation continues to escalate rapidly, with Israel re-occupying the Natzerim corridor, splitting Gaza in half and raising urgent concerns over grave violations of human rights.

The ceasefire agreement, established on 19 January 2025, aimed to halt hostilities, facilitate humanitarian aid, and temporarily pause intensive airstrikes but has been repeatedly violated. Since March 2, Israel has committed more than 350 documented violations, including military incursions, gunfire, air raids, intensified surveillance, and the complete obstruction of humanitarian aid. The instrumentalization of aid remains a critical concern, with a total blockade worsening the humanitarian crisis.

International institutions and several states have raised urgent concerns over the escalating situation in Gaza.  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, EU High Representative and VP, Kaja Kallas, and several EU Member States have condemned the attacks and the instrumentalisation of aid as a political tool.

The international community must urgently push for an immediate return to a ceasefire, and for the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid. Humanitarian agencies must be allowed to operate freely and safely to deliver food, medical assistance, and other critical support to all individuals in need. Respect for international humanitarian law and human rights law must be prioritized, and accountability for violations must be ensured. Justice and accountability are essential to achieving lasting peace in the region.
