On 16 June 2020, unknown perpetrators broke into Human Rights Association co-chair and woman rights defender Eren Keskin in Istanbul.
Referring to this incident, Wadih Al-Asmar, President of EuroMed Rights said:
“EuroMed Rights shares the concerns of our member organisation, the Human Rights Association. This act can be considered as a direct threat to Eren Keskin’s personal life. EuroMed Rights will support any necessary action within international fora to further investigate and clarify this intimidating act against one of the most reputable Human Rights defender in Turkey. This is a clear example of the extreme polarisation of the society in the country. The police must thoroughly inquire into this violation of personal life and the authorities must strongly condemn this act. Eren’s legitimate daily struggle for human rights won’t be silenced by this cowardice. Judicial harassment against Eren from the authorities must be stopped.”
