STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY with the Tunisian League for Human Rights (LTDH)

EuroMed Rights expresses its full and unwavering solidarity with the Tunisian League for Human Rights, a historic organization and founding member of the network, widely recognized for its essential role in the promotion and protection of human rights in Tunisia and across the Euro-Mediterranean region, following the decision to suspend its activities for a period of thirty days.
EuroMed Rights considers this measure to represent a concerning restriction of civic space and a violation of fundamental freedoms of association and collective action. It forms part of a broader context marked by increasing pressure on civil society organizations and human rights defenders.
The targeting of a leading organization such as the Tunisian League for Human Rights, with its long-standing history and widely acknowledged role in defending rights and freedoms, raises serious concerns regarding Tunisia’s compliance with its national and international human rights obligations, as well as fundamental guarantees related to freedom of association, expression, and civic engagement.
EuroMed Rights calls on the Tunisian authorities to immediately reverse this decision, to uphold international human rights standards, and to ensure a safe, enabling, and independent environment for the work of civil society organizations and human rights defenders.
EuroMed Rights reiterates its support for the Tunisian League for Human Rights, as well as for all human rights defenders in Tunisia.
