  • On June 25th, a policy brief on the situation of the right to asylum in Morocco was published by the media Enass. According to this document, there are three key flaws in the Moroccan asylum system: “The irregular functioning of the Office for Refugees and Stateless Persons in Rabat, the lack of transparency of the UNHCR in Morocco and the absence of a mechanism”.
  • On June 20th, on the occasion of International Refugee Day, UNHCR held a press briefing in Rabat. Since the U.S. budget cut, the UN agency has found it increasingly difficult to register and process refugee claims. Today, nearly 19,000 refugees and asylum seekers are in Morocco.
  • On June 12th, the media outlet Enass published an article about Moroccan migrants arrested in Algeria. On June 5th, 2025, the AMSV and the Coordination of families of young Moroccans seeking to emigrate, held captive, detained or missing in Algeria (Coordination), had managed to organize the repatriation of the bodies of two migrants reported missing in Algeria. The association declared that the operation “was able to succeed after two years of waiting”, adding that “the AMSV offers its sincere apologies to the families of the victims and reaffirms its commitment to continue the steps to allow the return of the other four bodies still in Algeria.” In total, in December 2024, 481 Moroccan families were looking for a missing or arrested person in Algeria.
