- On 11 April 2024, the sinking of a boat from Sfax between Malta and Lampedusa resulted in the death of 9 people, including a minor, and the disappearance of 15 others. The individuals were from sub-Saharan Africa (Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali and Côte d’Ivoire).
- On April 10, 2024, destabilized by unbearable weather conditions, about 40 people found themselves in extreme distress at sea. The Maltese rescue services called for assistance from the commercial oil tanker KRITI LEGEND but it did not stop.
