  • On 30 September, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Albania would not sign an agreement with any country other than Italy to outsource the processing of asylum applications.
  • On 19 September, the Croatian government announced the arrest of 1,430 individuals for involvement in smuggling operations so far this year.
  • On 18 September, Serbian police initiated a pursuit of two alleged traffickers driving seven migrants. The driver attempted to evade arrest, the police opened fire, resulting in the death of one of the migrants. 
  • On 18 September, the Courier des Balkans reported that the Drina River, which separates Bosnia from Serbia, is becoming an increasingly important crossing point. Since January 2024, 5,477 people have tried to cross it.
