About EuroMed Rights 

 EuroMed Rights was founded in January 1997 in response to the Barcelona Declaration of November 1995 and the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP). It is the coordinating body of about 68 human rights organisations and institutions as well as individuals from over 30 countries. EuroMed Rights’ organisational structure is built on a general assembly, an executive committee, working groups and a secretariat.  

Rooted in civil society the Network seeks to develop and strengthen partnerships between NGOs in the EuroMed region, i.e. networking aimed at strengthening the capacity of members to act and interact within the context of the region and the Barcelona process and other EU-Arab cooperation frameworks.

Description of Tasks 

The Coordinator will ensure the implementation of EuroMed Rights’ country programs in Turkey and Syria, under the supervision of the Head of Middle East Unit. The role contributes to advancing the organisation’s overarching strategy and objectives in the region.  Working closely with the colleagues of the Middle East Unit and other relevant departments, the Coordinator supports coherent, strategic and impactful delivery of activities and projects.

 

Essential position functions:

Monitor political, human rights and civil society developments across the Middle East with a particular attention on Turkey and Syria, and in line EuroMed Rights priorities; propose relevant initiatives accordingly.
Track EU, Member State and UN policies, calendars and initiatives relevant to the region. Identify risks faced by EuroMed Rights members and partners, and suggest appropriate solidarity actions (e.g. alerts, missions)
Contribute to strategic planning and propose initiatives aligned with EuroMed Rights’ regional priorities.

 

Project management and fundraising:

Coordinate the implementation of EU funded projects and other donor-funded projects in the region particularly in Turkey and Syria
Contributes to fundraising efforts for Middle East initiatives Ensure donor compliance, including monitoring, evaluation and financial reporting

Advocacy and communication:

In close coordination with the Advocacy department, propose and implement EuroMed Rights advocacy actions targeting the EU, Member States, and the UN
Support advocacy missions, media outreach, publications and capacity building activities
Draft reports, statements and recommendations under the supervision of the Middle East Head of Unit

Networking and Representation

Represent EuroMed Rights in meetings and events related to the Middle East region
Maintain close relation with civil society organisations, EuroMed Rights’ members and institutional actors
Facilitate coordination among partners in Turkey and Syria and promote synergies with other regional programmes

Team Contribution and Administration:

Contribute to strategic and operational work of the Middle East Unit and, collaboratewith colleagues across country programmes
Apply EuroMed Rights gender mainstreaming policy across all activities
Coordinate with support staff to ensure smooth financial and logistical follow-up

 

Profile and Requirements

Essential : 

University degree in political social science, law, international relations or anotherrelated field
At least 4 years of experience in human rights, civil society and advocacy work
Strong knowledge of political and human rights developments in the Middle East, particularly Turkey and Syria
Experience in project coordination and familiarity with EU-funded projects
Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written)
Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment

Assets : 

Knowledge of Turkish and French
Experience working with EU institutions and UN mechanisms
Familiarity with budgeting and donor compliance
