Nasser Amin is the director of the Arab Centre for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession in Egypt, as well as the Chairman of the Complaints Committee of the quasi-official National Council for Human Rights. He has worked on cases of enforced disappearances and torture, which he has described as a systematic pattern.

On 14 July 2016, he was prevented from travelling to Beirut for a conference by security officers at Cairo International airport based on an order of the Public Prosecutor. The reason behind the travel ban was not stated by the authorities at the time. It is a result of the investigation in case 173/2011, known as the NGO foreign funding trial, which targets NGOs that receive funds from abroad.

On March 22, 2024, Case 173 of 2011 is closed.
