General Context
The Moroccan Organization for Human Rights has been following with deep concern the situation of migrants and prospective migrants since the border-crossing incident into the occupied city of Ceuta and the attempted entry into the occupied city of Melilla at the end of July this year, as well as the ensuing events and tragedies affecting those attempting to cross and their families. The Moroccan Organization for Human Rights once again expresses its profound regret over these events, extends its sincere condolences to all the families concerned, and pays tribute to the victims. It should be noted that, since the outbreak of these events, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights established a special committee tasked with monitoring developments, conducting field observation, gathering information and liaising with all relevant stakeholders. This initiative was undertaken in accordance with the Organization’s universal human rights framework and its Statutes, and as part of its ongoing engagement with the human rights situation in Morocco, particularly through monitoring, protection and the promotion of human rights.
