  • The UK Home Office has confirmed that migrants will receive compensation after the High Court ruled that the seizure of their phones was unlawful. The court decision affects dozens of migrants who arrived via the English Channel. Alongside this, the Home Office stated that, under the new Border Security Act, phone seizures are now being carried out at migrant holding facilities, with technology in place to extract information from confiscated devices.
  • Over 120 rights organizations condemned the UK government’s proposed Earned Settlement system as discriminatory. The groups argue that it creates a hierarchy of migrants, disproportionately targeting refugees, care workers, and racialized communities, and undermines everyone’s rights and access to basic services. They call for permanent settlement rights for all migrants and stronger protections against exploitation.
