  • On 25 August 2025, Belgium announced it would implement stricter rules for family reunification. Under the new ‘Easter Agreement’, the minimum income for sponsors was raised from 2,089 to 2,300 euros a month, and the minimum age required to apply for partner reunification has been raised from 18 to 21. In response, policy experts have warned that the new requirements increasing family separation could lead to “slow integration, harm mental health, and reduce socio-economic participation among migrants”.
