  • Turkey and Italy have signed an agreement to increase their cooperation in preventing irregular migration, particularly from Libya. Antonio Tajani, the foreign minister of Italy, said on Thursday 11 September  2025 that the two countries would work together to “train law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks in the Mediterranean”. 
  • On 8 September 2025, Turkish authorities detained 28 migrants who were trying to enter Greece by sea in western Balıkesir province. The group, consisting of Somali, Iraqi, Palestinian and Syrian nationals, was sent to  Bandırma Repatriation Center. 
  • Five migrants have been killed in a collision with a Turkish coast guard vessel off northwest Turkey on 7 September 2025. According to Turkish authorities, the coast guard boat was carrying out routine patrols when it collided with a boat carrying 35 passengers, causing people to go overboard. One person is still reported missing, with a search being carried out.
