On September 10, European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen has delayed the announcement of her 26 commissioner nominees’ portfolios until next week – originally the names were to be revealed on September 11. On migration, of relevance are the appointments of Commissioners for Home Affairs and the new Commissioner for the Mediterranean. According to latest news, the first could go to Hadja Lahbib from Belgium, and the latter to Costas Kadis from Cyprus.
On 10 September, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs met in Cairo to strengthen cooperation between the European Union and Egypt on migration issues.
