  • On 17 April 2024, Salvamiento Maritimo carried out two operations rescuing a total of 133 people who were heading towards the Canary Islands. The first Spanish coastguard boat rescued 72 people, including  60 men and 12 women. The second assisted 58 men and 3 women.
  • On 15 April 2024, Frontex announced a 12% decrease in  the total number of so-called irregular arrivals to the EU compared to the same period of the previous year. The Atlantic route to the Canary Islands is an exception, with an exceptional increase since January.
  • On April 12, 2024, 4 deceased women were found in a boat in southeastern Spain. Believed to be of North African origin, the authorities carried out an autopsy to determine the cause of their death.
  • On 06 Apr 2024, the family of 3 persons on the move contacted AlarmPhone. This group had been stranded in the islet of Alboran for a week.
