Turkey has deported more than 300 migrants from Afghanistan, DID press agency reported on 23 November 2025. Reports indicate that they were first detained in the city of Van and then transfered to Kabul on a charter flight. Afghanistan’s Taliban-led Ministry of Refugees stated that some of those deported had legal documents but were sent back regardless. These events follow earlier reports of harsh treatment of Afghan migrants in Turkish detention centers.
According to a report by ANSA from 31 October 2025, the EU has allocated 150 million euros to support Syrian refugees returning to Syria from Turkey. As stated by the European delegation chief in Ankara, Jurgis Vilčinskas, a part of the financial assistance will serve for “repatriations for the most vulnerable to cover immediate primary needs, lodgings repairs, and support for subsistence, and will be distributed in collaboration with UNHCR in Syria”.
