On 3 September, a boat carrying 21 migrants caught fire off the coast of Dellys, leaving around ten people missing and four dead. On 1st September, Agence France-Presse, citing information from the NGO Alarm Phone Sahara, reported that Algeria had expelled 20,000 migrants to Niger since January. Migrants are usually arrested during raids in various places, including towns, homes, workplaces and near the Tunisian border. They are then transported to Niger in trucks, and many report being subjected to considerable violence during these operations.
