On 6 September, human smuggler Anas Al Mustafa was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The man, who was travelling from Dieppe in France to the UK last February, hid seven people in the back of his van in appalling conditions. On the same day, a 27-year-old man was sentenced to 9 years in prison for his part in the anti-migrant riots in August and his involvement in a fire at a migrant center in Rotherham.
On 3 September, the British organization Women for Refugee Women released a new report revealing that asylum-seeking women are subject to coercion and control in hotel accommodation in the UK. In particular, the report shows that the women are subject to regular surveillance, voyeurism and harassment by hotel staff, and are punished with eviction by hotel staff.
