On August 5 2025, more than fifty people attempted to swim to Ceuta from Fnideq. According to police sources reported by TelQuel, they were Moroccan women and people from sub-Saharan Africa. The migrants were intercepted by the Moroccan Gendarmerie’s maritime units.
On July 28 2025, in response to the resurgence of racism and xenophobia on both sides of the Mediterranean, the media outlet Enass relayed the findings of the Prometheus Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, the OMDH (Moroccan Organisation of Human Rights), and ATTAC Morocco. In a press release, these organizations warned of the rise in hate speech, particularly on social media, and racist violence, especially against migrants, in both Spain and Morocco.
