  • On 11 May, the NGO ResQship discovered the bodies of two children aged around three and four on board a boat close to Lampedusa that had left Libya three days earlier. Two other deaths were also reported: one person fell into the sea and another did not survive despite an attempt at resuscitation by cardiac massage. A total of 62 people were rescued.
  • On 8 May, the German NGO Sea-Watch intervened in the central Mediterranean to rescue nearly 200 migrants in distress. The rescued people will be disembarked at the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. A few days earlier, on the night of 3 to 4 May, the organisation had already rescued 71 migrants.
  • A total of 1612 migrants arrived in Lampedusa between 26 and 30 April. According to Frontex, it is “the improvement of weather conditions” that would explain this increase in arrivals. The European agency boasts of having participated in some rescues in the Mediterranean despite all the accusations denouncing its lack of cooperation with humanitarian NGOs.
