The ongoing conflict in Sudan is driving thousands of Egyptians, Sudanese, and third-country nationals to Egypt, leading to chaos at the border. On May 5, 2023 the UN agency for refugees declared that more than 100,000 people had fled from Sudan to neighbouring countries, especially Egypt and Chad. On April 27, 2023 Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson said that 16,000 foreign nationals, 14,000 of them Sudanese citizens, had crossed into Egypt since fighting broke out, along with more than 5,000 Egyptian citizens.
On April 28, 2023 President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Cairo. The two sides agreed to reach a future framework for cooperation to address undocumented and its economic and social roots.
