On April 25, 2023, WHO meeting on migration and refugee health took place in Larnaca. The purpose of this meeting was to find ways to improve the healthcare system for refugees and migrants.
The Cypriot government has hired 200 border guards to focus on irregular migration and smuggling from the Turkish Cypriot north. These guards will be armed and their missions will be : conducting immigration checks, tracking down smugglers, taking people to migration centres and deporting irregular migrants. NB: This new measure follows accusations by the Cypriot government that Turkey is encouraging migration to Cyprus.
