On March 08, 2024, according to an Alarm Phone alert, 50 people were on board of a precarious ship in the central Mediterranean. The Libyan coast guard says it intercepted the boat. Relatives of the migrants have confirmed their return to Libya.
On March 02, 2024, the EU-funded Libyan Coast Guard attempted to sabotage a rescue operation led by SOS Humanity. The Humanity I vessel team managed to rescue 77 people despite threats from their armed assailants. At least one person drowned during the operation.
On February 25, 2024, a commercial vessel rescued approximately 100 people in danger. The latter, who left the Libyan coast, were able to find their way back to dry land on the island of Crete.
On February 20, 2024, 86 people of Egyptian and Pakistani origin were detained by police in eastern Libya. On 22 February, the group of migrant detainees was awaiting deportation proceedings.
