On the 19th of December 2024, according to the Malian authorities, a boat heading for the Canary Islands sank near the Moroccan coast. 70 people are missing, including 25 young people of Malian origin. 11 migrants survived the sinking.
On the 18th of December 2024, on the occasion of the International Migrants Day, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights issued a statement with six demands: “freedom of safe movement”, “the end of return policies”, “act on the root causes”, “end discrimination”, “end impunity on Barrio Chino” and “end subcontracting by Morocco”.
