  • A shipwreck in Malta’s Search and Rescue (SAR) zone has claimed the lives of at least two children. According to a press release issued by the NGO Sea Punks on 26 January, a third child was reported missing, while 18 people were rescued by their vessel, the Sea Punk I. Reacting to the tragedy, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Country Coordinator for Italy, Nicola Dell’Arciprete, said: ‘For too long, the Mediterranean has been a deadly crossing for children in search of safety and a better life.’
