On 2 October, the Lebanese government estimated that some 200,000 Syrian refugees had fled to various areas in northern Syria. Many have reported being extorted at border crossings, and some identity documents are being held by the authorities for “further verification”.
On 27 September, the UNHCR announced that more than 30,000 people had crossed the border between Lebanon and Syria. About 80% of those who crossed were Syrians and about 20% were Lebanese.
On 26 September, 33 Syrians, including eight women and ten children, were killed in Lebanon, bringing the total number of Syrian refugees killed since the start of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon to 113, including 25 women and 35 children.
On 25 September, thousands of people, mostly Syrians but also Lebanese, fled from Lebanon to Syria following the Israeli attack. UNHCR is stepping up its assistance in the region.
On 24 September, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that 45 Syrian refugees had been killed by Israel in Lebanon in the previous 24 hours. Concerns are growing about the safety of refugees in the country.
