  • On 8 June, 54 migrants were found on an oil platform in the central Mediterranean. They had left Libya three days earlier and their inflatable boat had capsized. Among those rescued was a woman who had just given birth. Shortly afterwards, the humanitarian ship Astral rescued 109 other migrants, including 10 children.   
  • On June 5, MEP and activist Rima Hassan announced on her Twitter account that the humanitarian flotilla en route to Gaza had received a call reporting that a migrant boat was in distress in the Mediterranean. The Libyan coast guard intervened, but four Sudanese nationals jumped into the water to escape the inhumane conditions in Libya. They are now aboard the humanitarian vessel. 
  • On 29 May, 5 Sudanese were found dead in the Libyan desert after a vehicle broke down on its way from Chad to Libya. 22 people were found in critical condition, suffering from dehydration, signs of distress and trauma, and 5 others are still missing. 
  • On 26 and 28 May, 134 Malians and 169 Chadians returned to their countries of origin on flights organized by IOM. More and more migrants are opting for this option, called “voluntary return”, in the face of the inhumane conditions in which they live in Libya.  
  • On May 15, NBC News revealed that the Trump administration was working on a deportation plan to deport nearly one million Palestinians to Libya. According to the same source, Libya would receive financial compensation in exchange for this agreement.
