On June 04 2024, 41 CSOs, including EuroMed Rights, expressed their concern about the Italian government’s decision to include Egypt in the list of “safe countries”. Egypt, a country with multiple and protean human rights violations, joins other countries such as Bangladesh, Cameroon, Colombia, Peru and Sri Lanka on this list.
On June 02 2024, 84 people were disembarked in the port of Salerno. They had been assisted by MSF Sea during two rescue operations.
On June 01 2024, the Ocean Viking of the NGO SOS Méditerranée disembarked 67 people in distress in the port of Ancona. Their boat had sunk near Libyan waters and was carrying 7 children.
On May 30 2024, thanks to a humanitarian corridor, 49 refugees of Syrian origin, including 17 children, landed in Rome from Beirut.
On May 27 2024, during two different operations, the crew of the SOS Humanity 1 assisted 100 people, including pregnant women and children, who were in danger in international waters in the Mediterranean. The Italian authorities designated the distant port of Livorno for the disembarkation.
On May 22 2024, 35 migrants disembarked in the port of Ortona. Rescued by the Ocean Viking ship, they had spent more than 5 days at sea.
On May 20 2024, the port of Marina di Carrara in Tuscany served as a disembarkation place for 70 migrants rescued by the Humanity 1 vessel.
On May 18 2024, 28 men from Bangladesh arrived in the port of Roccella Ionica. The next day, a group of 87 migrants, including women and children, have regained some safety since leaving the Turkish coast.
On May 15 2024, a new coalition of NGOs was formed in Italy under the name of the Solidarity Network for the Free Movement of Migrants. A myriad of Italian associations will thus be able to coordinate to carry out joint operations.
