On 26 November, the European Court of Justice has suspended a case referred by the Bologna Court in October seeking clarification on the Italian government decree listing 19 “safe countries” for repatriation. The suspension comes ahead of rulings on two similar cases from other Italian courts, which have been consolidated for review.
On 23 November, Sea Watch 5 rescued 49 people in distress at sea and was ordered to the port of Ravenna, more than 1,600 kilometers away. Three days later, the ship had to stop in Palermo due to the health problems of some of the migrants, allowing six minors to disembark. However, the remaining 32 migrants were not allowed to disembark. After strong protests, all the migrants were finally allowed to disembark in Palermo.
