  • On 24 June, 2024, 77 people were rescued by several boats between the islands of Amorgos and Astypalala. The group was able to disembark on the island of Naxos.  
  • On 20 June, 2024, a letter was sent to European Commissioner Ylva Johansson by a group of more than 30 MEPs, including Tineke Strik (Greens), calling notably for the freezing of European funding for Frontex in Greece. This follows the publication of the BBC’s investigation into the multiple violations of international law by the European agency.  
  • On 17 June, 2024, the BBC published an investigation and documentary that demonstrates the involvement of the Greek Coast Guard in the deaths of dozens of migrants between 2020 and 2023. In view of these facts, the European Commission has asked Greece to respect the right to asylum.  
  • 14 June 2024 marks the anniversary of the Pylos shipwreck. More than 300 people were killed in this tragedy, which spared the lives of 104 survivors. 82 bodies have been recovered and only 58 have been identified. Mainly from Syria, Pakistan and Egypt, the victims and relatives continue to demand that the investigation into the alleged responsibility of the Greek coast guard be continued.  
  • On 12 June, 2024, on the island of Glaros, 6 people were stranded and AlarmPhone is concerned about yet another pushback.
