On 11 June, 2024, in an article published by The New Humanitarian, journalist Daniel Thorpe exposes the reasons for the 82% increase in asylum applications from Turkish citizens for the EU between 2022 and 2023. Turkey is a country that hosts about 3.6 million refugees but is emitting more and more due to the economic crisis that has lasted since 2018. Minorities, Kurds and Alevis in particular, are oppressed and political opponents are subjected to the regime’s repression.
