  • On February 24, 153 people were rescued from the Mediterranean Sea by the NGOs SOS Méditerranée and Sea-Watch, including women and minors. The rescue operations took place off the coast of Libya, with Sea-Watch rescuing 41 people and the Ocean Viking, chartered by SOS Méditerranée, coming to the aid of 112 migrants. Those rescued came mainly from Bangladesh, Somalia and Egypt. 
  • On February 19, the InfoMigrants editorial team published an article following several testimonies from migrants who had been handed over to Libyan militias by the Tunisian authorities. A 33-year-old Guinean said: “The Libyans, armed and hooded, took us back. He was then taken to Tajourah prison, on the eastern outskirts of Tripoli. Living conditions are disastrous, with women subjected to numerous sexual assaults. At least 40 migrants perished in the prison. 
  • On February 13, the Libyan authorities claimed to have found 11 new bodies in a mass grave in the south-east of the country. The number of bodies found in the Kufra district now stands at 39. 
  • On February 11, 16 people from Pakistan were found dead off the coast of the Libyan town of Zaoula when their boat sank. A total of 63 people were on board and only 37 survived. One person has been hospitalized, 33 are in “police custody” and ten other passengers are missing.
