  • In February, the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights called, in February, for accountability for human rights violations against asylum seekers in Greece. Mr. O’Flaherty also stressed the need to improve reception conditions in Rhodes and Crete to cope with the “massive influx of new arrivals”, and called for the rapid transfer of unaccompanied minors to the mainland.
  • On February 27, 350 migrants arrived in Gavdos, Greece. This was the highest number of arrivals on this Greek island in a single day. All the young men were then transferred to Crete, as the small island of Gavdos did not have the means to take them in.
