  • On May 26, an Egyptian migrant detained at the Vincennes administrative detention center lost his life. According to the “A bas les CRA” collective, the death was the result of police violence.  
  • On May 25, five military officers were charged with failing to assist a person in danger as part of the investigation into the death of 27 migrants after their boat sank in the English Channel on November 24, 2021.  
  • The “Wuambushu” operation to expel Comorian migrants from Mayotte began at the end of April. On May 16, the Comorian government declared that it would accept its irregular nationals back onto its soil. The government had initially refused and prohibited disembarkation at its ports. In a press release, the government stated that it wanted the political climate to calm down before the presidential elections in 2024.  
  • On May 11, France approved the use of drones at the Italian-French border to track migrants. France is also intensifying control checks along migratory routes and trains and increasing the deployment of police officers along the border with Italy.  
  • On May 10, a migrant died in Calais on the port ring road, hit by a truck. This was one of a series of similar tragedies involving exiles trying to reach England via France. Cases of violence against migrants trying to reach England from northern France are not isolated, underlining the extreme vulnerability of migrants.
