On 17 October, the Israeli attacks on Lebanon resulted in the mass displacement of more than 1 million people. More than 276,000 people, mostly women and children, crossed the border into Syria, where the situation was already dire, with more than 90 percent of the population living below the poverty line and an estimated 7.2 million people internally displaced.
On 8 October, RFI revealed that the situation for migrant workers in Lebanon is dire. These individuals, primarily women employed in domestic work, are frequently abandoned by their employers, who seek security elsewhere. In some cases, employers even lock the workers inside their homes to protect their property.
