On 11 October, a new investigation shed light on how the EU has spent millions to create a deportation machine in Turkey. In particular, Syrian and Afghan nationals are systematically detained and sent back to their countries, made possible by a vast infrastructure of arrest, detention and deportation built and funded by the EU.
On 9 October, a boat with 27 people on board, including 20 children, heading for Lesbos, was stopped in Turkish waters by the Turkish coastguard. The Turkish coastguard used guns to stop the boat and there were several reports of the guards beating people.
